HELP

On the subject of help:  Engineering, in its essence, is about helping people. It is done with regard to what people need to survive and thrive.  Engineers work with their minds wondering and shaping how society will react to any new technology they introduce. They hypothesize about how it will help, if it won’t help anything there’s no reason to work on it.

Engineers shape your future.  It is up to them to decide how we will evolve how we will live our lives in any condition of the future. 

There are many things helped by engineers’ work.  The environment is directly affected and is a subject that many people care about. Recent advancements in alternative energy are a high profile issue right now, and engineering is at the base of these advancements. Something I am familiar with is the use of wave energy.  This type energy may be the kind that is thought of the least, but has the highest amount of potential.  Many countries are looking into making “wave farms” effecient and marketable.  Waves are effecient in only some parts of the world including the western coasts of Scotland, northern Canada, southern Africa, Australia, and the northwestern coasts of the United States where the size of the waves and the energy harvested from them is relativily big. There are two common methods proposed for the absorbing of wave energy: one is a spring based buoy system where the waves would push the spring up and down, transmitting the energy to an anchor on the seafloor, the other system works similarily with the anchor system but instead gathers energy from a long flexible buoy that gathers energy from the bending of the joints. 

Wave energy is an example of a completely clean energy source.  It has a low impact on the environment because it can be placed where it will have little or no contact with natural habitats.  The form of the energy gathered would be electricity, which when used leaves no carbon footprint. 

Of course for this energy to be fully utilized society will have to move towards being dependent solely on electricity.  This is the eventual goal of engineering and science, electricity is completely renewable and leaves no impact on the environment, it is optimal of energy sources. 

By creating these things engineers help us.  They help everybody.  Every single human being,  plant, leaf, animal, bug, and baby.  They create the infrastructure that allows our society to blossom and shape into what we want it.  Without help there would be no engineering, without engineering we would need a lot of help.
